Experience
Darrel joined the U.S. Air Force in February 1983 where he became a construction equipment operator. While stationed in Germany (1984-1987) Darrel was the night shift lead during snow removal operations. As night shift lead he was responsible for all snow removal operations for the runway, taxiways, and aircraft parking areas, including all alert aircraft. Darrel also served as a squad leader for the base denial explosives/demolition squad, and earned Non Commissioned Officer of the quarter honers. In 1987 he transfered to Hurlburt Field, Florida. From this assignment Darrel traveled to various Air Force bases within the United States and overseas on Air Force construction projects, to include being deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He served as Assistant Project Manager in charge of excavating, leveling and soil stabilization of the construction site. Some of these were Vice Presidential directed projects, others were at classified locations. Darrel also served as Non Commissioned Officer in charge of squadron fuels management. He was honorably discharged in August 1992.
Currently Darrel works for the Franciscan Health System as a Registered Nurse. His position requires him to travel to all four Franciscan Hospitals to assist the GI Physicians and administer conscious sedation medications. Darrel's nursing experience also includes a Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Emergency Room, Pediatric Operating Room, Adult Cardiac Telemetry Unit, and weekend Charge Nurse.
Community Involvement
Darrel is currently serving his second year as Co-Chair of Lakewood's Human Services Funding Advisory Board, was Chairman of Operations for the 2009 St. Frances Cabrini Auction. He is the Webelos Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 53 here in Lakewood. In 2005 Darrel was one of the volunteers to work on the new play equipment at Ft. Steilacoom Park. He has been a coach for many different children's sports teams in nearly every community he has lived in since 1980.
